Abstract
The use of placebo interventions and placebo effect raises concerns and controversies. Against this backdrop, this article clarifies and contextualizes the current definitions of placebos and placebo effects and discusses the three main areas in which such controversial interventions are exploited: (1) randomized-controlled trials (RCTs); (2) laboratory research setting; and (3) clinical practices.
