Abstract
An overview of data-driven methods developed in ATLAS to evaluate main sources of backgrounds for the estimation of the t¯t cross section is presented. The techniques have been designed for both the single lepton and for the dilepton channels to establish confidence in background estimates without relying on the simulation.
