Abstract
The LHCb experiment is a precision heavy flavour experiment at the Large Hadron Collider. This contribution gives an introduction to the experiment, a short summary of the detector performance, and an overview of selected first results. These first measurements of particle production are set in the context of prospects for precision measurements of Standard Model parameters and searches for new physics.
