Abstract
This paper aims to analyse the pinakes of the Persephoneion of Locri Epizefirii with the rep-resentations of musical performances during a sacrifice, most likely celebrated in a temple dedicated to Aphrodite. On these scenes musical representations appear linked to the pow-er of music of increasing the effectiveness of the acts of worship. The images highlight not only the role and function of music in sacred sphere in the italiot polis, but also in the female performances connected with the wedding rituals: these rituals had an erotic character, and were celebrated by the maidens before marriage.
