Abstract
L’intima connessione tra mousiké e la gymnastiké è riflessa in numerose immagini raffigurate nelle ceramiche attiche che includono sia scene di educazione musicale sia scene riferibili alla pratica sportiva. Nella produzione vascolare attica compaiono raffigurazioni di atleti nelle quali è ricorrente la presenza di un suonatore che con l’aulos accompagna le loro attività ginniche. A partire dal VI sec. a.C., le immagini mostrano come la relazione tra mousiké e gymnastiké si collochi nell’ambito di un modello educativo di stampo aristocratico incentrato sull’esaltazione dei valori ideali della giovinezza che nella musica e lo sport individuavano due componenti fondamentali della paideia greca. Non stupisce, dunque, la presenza del tema figurativo legato alla musica e allo sport ad Akragas, uno dei centri più attivi dell’Occidente greco sia nell’attività musicale che in quella atletica. The intimate connection between mousiké and gymnastiké is reflected on those vases that include images of musical instruction together with scenes related to athletic practice. Many purely athletic scenes represent auloi players providing musical accompaniment, further emphasising the connection between sport and music. As early as the VI c. BCE, the images show how this relationship is part of an aristocratic educational model focused on the exaltation of the ideal values of youth, which in music and sport identified two fundamental components of Greek paideia. Therefore, it is not surprising the presence of this figurative theme in Akragas, one of the most active Western Greek poleis both in music and athletic activity.
