Abstract
The paper focuses on a section (cc. 24r-136v) of the Sloane Ms. 416 from the British Library in London, a fifteenth-century miscellanea drawn up in Italian, Latin and a hybrid Italo-Romance-Latin-English. The manuscript, known as Manoscritto veneziano, was published in 1991 by Bianca Silvia Tosatti: the book was assembled by a British doctor, who, in the middle of the fifteenth century, spent some time between northern Italy and Switzerland. The section examined in the paper comprises mostly short prescriptions of a medical, alchemical and technical-artistic nature. The recipes are extremely rich in vocabulary: ingredients for prescriptions, plants, containers and utensils, the procedures necessary to create the preparations, and terminology relating to diseases and their cure.
