Abstract
The clinical situations where the goal is the suppression of unwanted immune responses are varied, especially for a therapy on the organ transplant. Over the past forty years, the success of allograft transplantation has been possible mainly thanks to the availability of effective immunosuppressive agents, at first these included non-specific cytotoxic agents (azathioprine, cyclophosphamide, and cortosteroidi), able to manifest their effect through ' inhibition of lymphocyte proliferation, causing a toxic side effect on other cells in proliferation, such as bone marrow and gastrointestinal tract. This can give rise to a number of side effects, including bone marrow suppression and infection. With the introduction of cyclosporine and tacrolimus in more recent years, most of these toxicities can be avoided in the organ transplant. This paper describes the pharmacological immunosuppression in the fundamental principles in its potential targets, in its fundamental guidelines and unwanted side effects resulting from its use, but are primarily discussed the progress in techniques and treatment.
