Abstract

The role of the nurses in clinical trials was discussed in a seminar organised by Assistenza Infermieristica e Ricerca and the Mario Negri Research Institute. An overview of the contribution of the nurses to research and clinical trials was presented and a few relevant examples of nurses’ involvement in descriptive and experimental research discussed, with specific attention to the role and possible role of the nurses in ethic committees. Based on contributions an important discussion developed, which led to the identification of main areas of interest and key priorities for nursing clinical trials. Some of the main contributes to the seminar are presented together with proposals for developing a specific nursing culture and practice in clinical trials and ethic committees.
