Abstract

The universities of the Department of Tolima in Colombia do not have an established academic tradition for either design or architectural restoration. In fact, it is only since 2006 that the University of Ibagué has offered the first institutional summer course in restoration. This course has allowed the introduction and the development of different important themes for the formation of architects: architectur- al design, history of architecture and conservation projects for the preserva- tion of cultural patrimony. This papers illustrates two international academic experiences that can demonstrate the importance of the study of design for restoration projects.
