Abstract

The oncologic safety of laparoscopic surgery in colo-rectal cancer is not jet controversial. Laparoscopic approaches for colorectal surgery have been improved recently; In this article we summarize the importance of lymph node resection and assessment in contemporary colon cancer care. Objectives: To compare the beneficial and harmful effects of laparoscopic versus open for patients with colo-rectal cancer. Patients and methods: Fron Genuary 2003 and July 2007, 84 patients with colo-rectal cancer underwent surgery operation, either by open (n = 41) or laparoscopic (n = 43) approach. Results: Median of lynphadenectomy was similar in open or laparoscopic surgery (16 vs 15); distal clearance was similar and effective for radical resection; infective postoperative complications were 2 anastomotic leakages in open surgery; none in laparoscopic group. Conclusion: This technique is a simple and effective procedure for successfully performing laparoscopic resection. Laparoscopic colectomy (LC) and OC (open colectomy) outcomes are generally comparable in the population. However, postoperative outcome was better after LC than after OC in radical colorectal surgery.
